RAW Initiative winner, 21 year old Enoch Mailangi grew up in the inner city suburb of Sydney of Waterloo in New South Wales. He's now stepping into a new world of creativity with no experience in screen writing.
Studying a Bachelor and Communication in Journalism, Enoch Mailangi is determined to break stereo types in the Australian Film and Television Industry.
Enoch is pitching his concept on a new web series ‘My Friends Are Racists' to Australia’s leading First Nations creatives. He says "My Friends Are Racist,' is a comedy series about three Indigenous students in their early 20’s embarking on their next stage of their life, all mates having different ideas on what being young and black means to them in 2017. The comedy is based on experiences in casual racism."
The title of the show came through when he finished High School. He remembers being at a house party with a bunch of his high school friends and one of his friends said a racist joke. Enoch says “I think for me enough is enough, this is where the title of the show came through, in my head I remember thinking like OMG all my friends are racist. I’m an idiot for allowing myself to put up with this for so long because in high school it’s different, you smile to just survive”.
“It’s been such an amazing experience so far, also just to meet other passionate Indigenous story tellers who like writing, it’s often hard when your young and you’re not from a family who’s in that industry”

The RAW Initiative is inspiring the youth of today and is supported by Artology, encouraging young people to learn and experience performing arts with ABC Indigenous and the Indigenous Unit at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS).
