Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is battling to contain a growing "brownface" scandal after photos emerged of him with dark make-up at a 2001 costume party.

Mr Trudeau - who faces the voters next month - has apologised and begged for forgiveness from the public and fellow Liberal candidates.
