Conversation with Cassie Leatham from the Taungurung / Wurundjeri people from the Kulin Nation. An artist, master weaver, bushtucka woman and educator. She is one of only two Victorian finalists of the prestigious 2019 NATSIAA awards.
In part 4 of our conversation, Cassie explains in detail the making of the piece she submitted for the art awards. It took her 6 months to create this piece.
This artwork is made with collected midden shells, shark bones and using emu fat to smooth out clay. It symbolises passing of knowledge from one generation to another.
