Skye Falzon, a professional boxer from Batemans Bay on the New South Wales South Coast, and her partner Ameir are helping to change lives through the power of boxing.
Dark South Academy was established in 2023 as an avenue for boxers to continue their passion and showcase their talents to the wider community.
Through their gym Skye and Ameir not only teach boxing fundamentals but house a full sized Olympic ring, to give the athletes the experience and confidence they needed.
Skye says "We wanted to expand on the sporting opportunities for the South Coast and especially for the youth, as growing up I personally knew how hard it was to continue your career in such a small coastal town that doesn’t have very much to offer when it comes to representing yourself at a higher level. Our idea to create Dark South Academy was purely community driven and built of the fact that we wanted to highlight the talent our community has to offer and to bring that to a bigger stage where we can watch our athletes thrive and grow around a sport that showcases determination, courage and strength."
Dark South Academy will host a fight night in March in Batemans Bay, showcasing the talents of the athletes, which are currently undergoing a twelve week training program to prepare for the big event.
NITV Radio attended a training session where we got to chat to Skye about the boxing program, as well as some of the participants about their personal journey and how boxing is helping change lives through health and fitness.
