The Victorian Public Sector (VPS) Women of Colour Conference will be held in Melbourne on Monday October 28.
The conference will bring together women from a number of backgrounds who will be able to discuss the barriers and challenges women of Color commonly face in the VPS.
Azmeena Hussain, lawyer at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers will MC the event. She told NITV Radio that women of colour from a multicultural background face a range of challenges from lack of opportunity to discrimination and to bullying.
Participants in Monday's conference will also examine the need to improve workplace health and safety practices and achieve greater representation in leadership roles across the VPS.
The Women of Colour Conference will draw an action plan and a set of key recommendations to be implemented across the VPS.
The conference is supported by the Australian Multicultural Foundation and will be hosted by Maurice Blackburn Lawyers and the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU).
