Cut the Sky - Marrugeku. What happens when we don't listen to country?


Cut the Sky - Marrugeku is a theatre production that tells the stories of devastation and impacts on the environment of Kimberley Region in Western Australia from an Indigenous and global perspective. 

The concept of Cut the Sky originally came from the writers listening to country and then developed by the flipping the concept and looking at what happens when we don't listen to country?

The Marrugeku Theatre Company collaborated on a local and international level to develop the emotional response written from their research on what globalisation brings to rural communities.

In the studios of SBS Radio Melbourne - Kirstyn Lindsay spoke to Dalisha Pigram and Rachel Swain, Directors of The Marrugeku theatre Company while 'Cut the Sky-Marrugeku' was performed in Melbourne.

The performance includes artists from Europe, Asia, Africa and remote and urban Australia and includes dance, video, poetry and music. featuring the heartfelt poetry and music of Edwin Lee Mulligan, Eric Avery, Buffalo Springfield, Nick Cave and soul singer Ngaiire.

The Marrugeku Theatre Company are now taking Cut the Sky to Noumea to the Kanak Cultural Centre for the One Pacific Dance Festival. They will also hold a Trans-Indigenous Intergraphic Laboratory with Kanak dancers and dancers from Fiji
