'There is still unfinished business in Australia when it comes to justice with the reparation process for Stolen Generations."-Hon Kevin Rudd.

On February thirteen 2008, The Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd, apologised to Australia's Indigenous peoples, the Stolen Generations and their families.

Kevin Rudd's response to the Bringing them Home Report (1997) was to make the apology a priority when he was first elected in office as Prime Minister in 2007.

He also initiated the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) to commit to the Closing The Gap Indigenous Health Equality Targets.

February thirteen 2008 was a day that stopped many nations and a very important day for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people.

It was a day to honour the children who were taken from their families and survived the trauma from abuse and disconnection, many now elders or deceased.

To remember the 8th Anniversary Canberra the Grandmothers Against Removals are holding a meeting and national day of action in Canberra to stop the continuing cycle of Stolen Generations.

In the eight years since the apology we have seen many successes and failures and there is a long way to go in Closing the Gap on Indigenous Disadvantage.

Living Black producer Kirstyn Lindsay spoke to Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd about the national apology and why he made to decision to go ahead with it.

Kevin Rudd says there is still unfinished business in Australia when it comes to justice with the reparation process for Stolen Generations.

The National Apology Foundation has been set up by Kevin Rudd to independently and academically research the data on The Closing the Gap Targets and assess the state of disadvantage in Indigenous communities.
