To stop the cycle of Stolen Generations, consultation with extended family members of the child is vital.

Not only is a child's safety important to restore kinship, connection to culture and language ensures a child's wellbeing is taken care of.

To remember the 8th Anniversary of the National Apology, The Grandmothers Against Removals have have held a national meeting and demonstration to raise the issues associated with child protection and the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island children from their families.

The NSW Family and Children Services worked in partnership with the Grandmothers Against Removals in 2015 to implement guidelines supporting the The Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and base consultation with families on a collective parenting model.

Wiradjuri Elder Hazel Collins is one of the Grandmothers in Canberra and she says that although the model is in place with the NSW state government, it is time to bring the guidelines forward across Australia and the Torres Strait Islands.
