Despite not finishing high school, Bundjalung/Kamilaroi artist and fashion design student Lou Bloomer just graduated from RMIT University’s Bachelor of Fashion (Design) and is on track for a career in the design and fashion industry.

During her time at RMIT, Lou Bloomer developed a love of textile and print design, combining hand painting and digital design.

Earlier this year, she won a competition to have her artwork featured as RMIT’s Indigenous Branding Design, which features prominently on the university’s digital channels, including email banners, document templates, and digital screens.

Throughout her time at RMIT, Bloomer gained support from the Ngarara Willim Centre — RMIT’s dedicated support service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

However, Bloomer believes her mum is her strongest supporter and ally always lending an ear unconditionally.

She is also inspired by Dr Bronwyn Bancroft, a Bundjalung artist who has been exhibiting in Australia and internationally for more than 30 years.
