Exhibition at The Rocks by Kathryn Dodd Farrawell shows the story of the artist’s own family: the hardships, but also their love, hope and incredible strength

Artist Kathryn Dodd Farrawell is a proud Kaanju and Biri Wirri woman. In her artworks presented in the Love Endures All Obstacles exhibition at The Rocks, the artist explores her family’s history and the darker side of Australia’s past.

In an intimate exhibition the artist takes viewers to bear witness to her family’s first hand experience surviving a number of harrowing and traumatic events. That includes the Stolen Generation, and Aboriginal Protection and Restriction of the Sale of Opium Acts.

Kathryn Dodd Farrawell spoke to Sarka Pechova about her art, about the exhibition and how it feels to be portraying her family's own history. The exhibition was opened during the National Reconciliation Week, so the artist spoke also about what this year's theme means to her.
