Seven First Nations counsellors are studying their Masters Degree in Narrative Therapy and healing communities.

Narrative therapy is a process different to western counselling practices and is paving the way for healing and recovery.

Many of us make the decision to work on our healing journey as a way of letting go of past pain and move into a different space in our lives.

It's a technique used in counselling and healing trauma, and is being used in communities to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to work on their issues through story telling and linking life stories that help with recovery.

Currently seven First Nations counsellors are doing their Masters degree in narrative therapy, supported by Barbara Wingard who is training new counsellors through the Dulwich Centre in South Australia.

Master students Leslie Purcell and Annette Dudley have been successfully working with a community at Wooorabinda in Central Queensland.

Bidjerra man Leslie Purcell, says narrative therapy is a non blaming therapy that connects peoples story to where they are now.
