The lives of more women and children are being lost because of family and domestic violence.

The recent murder of a baby in Logan City was not a good start for 2016.

Although there has been a shift in reform in the domestic violence system in Queensland, the numbers of homicides are still adding up.

The Queensland state government recently changed legislation in response to the release of the report, 'Not Now, Not Ever' - Putting an End to Domestic and Family Violence in Queensland.

New legislation can ouster perpertrators from the family home in a domestic violence situation and laws have been changed to monitor the way Police handle complaints, from women who experience violence from partners or ex partners.

Other changes to the Domestic and Family Violence Act 2012 includes the way courts hear cross applications-for both people who apply for a DVO-the person at most risk will receive protection.

With more funding available for security for women and their, the Queensland Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman says the Palaszczuk government is looking at ways of improving services for perpertrators and is committed to reducing deaths from family violence in Queensland.
