Conversation with Aaron Wyatt ahead of the premiere on October 27 of ‘Three Conversations’ - violinist Kyla Mitsuura-Miller’s program of new commissions for violin and electronics also featuring Sia Ahmad and Kitty Xiao; all three persons of colour.

Noongar man Aaron Wyatt is a viola player, composer, and conductor also the first Indigenous person to conduct one of the major orchestras in Australia, conducting the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

In a conversation with NITV Radio ahead of his upcoming performance in 'Three Conversations', Aaron Wyatt said he is excited to perform alongside other musicians of colour.

He also reiterated what inspired Kyla Mitsuura-Miller to commission the ground-breaking program.

Growing up playing classical music in Australia, Kyla Matsuura-Miller rarely came across music by composers who looked like her.

When she won one of Australia’s top music prizes in 2021 – the Freedman Fellowship – she decided to use the prize money to commission three Australian composers of colour to write new music for her to perform.

In the sidelines of the premiere the musicians will share their experience of growing up in the world of classical music in Australia as a person of colour.
