Northern Territory Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro used her first keynote address at the Garma Festival to announce a major Aboriginal land tenure agreement aimed at securing the long term future of Nhulunbuy as the Rio Tinto mine prepares to wind down.


She outlined the Territory Government's commitment to the future of north-east Arnhem Land, pledging long term land and fuel security for the region while promising the Arnhem Land town would remain in Aboriginal hands for generations to come.
