Healing for the Stolen Generations, a journey not supported without reparation for elders and their families.

Richard Weston from the Healing Foundation says healing is a process and for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people, the journey has only begun.

The Bringing Them Home Report (1997) was the leading document that steered Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island organisations and the federal government to work together on many intiatives including the Closing The Gap Health Targets and The National Apology to acknowledge the Stolen Generations.

The issue of forced removals of children from families not only shapes the history of British and European Settlement in Australia, it is also a problem for families with children currently active in the child protection system.

In the 8th Year since the National Apology to the Stolen Generations, The Reparations for the Stolen Generations in New South Wales Inquiry is considering the implementation of the NSW Government's response to the Bringing them Home Report throughout the decision process of Reparation in NSW.

Richard Weston from the Healing Foundation has advised the inquiry that the Reparations Package should include healing, restoration and acknowledgement to the elders and their families, based on the level of trauma from the institutionalisation and abuse carried out in state, church and foster care.
