Superannuation and retirement options are at risk for single Mothers who can't afford child care fees.


More and more mothers are turning to self-employment so they can stay at home with their children and avoid rising child care fees.

Sadly child care options have become limited for single mothers.

A recent study from the University of Sydney shows that self-employment is a last resort for many women and risk financial disadvantage.

Doctor Mariah Foley's recent research findings Mothers in Company: The entrepreneurial motivations of self-employed mothers in Australia, looks at what is driving women into self-employment.

Dr Foley she says that employment options such as self-employment and casual work presents risks for superannuation and increases disadvantage for single mothers.
