In his artist statement, Ronald Edwards Pepper said that his winning artwork -Coming Out 2 2021 (a mixed media on canvas)- is about him coming out and being proud of his culture.
Ronald Edwards Pepper says the title of his award-winning creation: Coming Out 2 2021 is about celebrating his culture as a proud Aboriginal gay man. And, through his artwork he aims to make a difference in all cultures and break down barriers
“I might be Aboriginal, but I don’t always do Aboriginal designs. I step outside my box and that’s why I do a lot of colour in spirals, not an Indigenous image or design.”
His artwork can be seen at the Koorie Heritage Trust in Melbourne as part of the 9th Koorie Art Show (04 December 2021-20 February 2022).
