In this episode Matthew Karakoulakis explains how you can lodge a claim if you have suffered loss of property or damage to property in the recent bushfires. He also explores your options if your insurance policy does not cover bushfires or if you are not insured at all.

The 2019/2020 bushfire season has been extraordinarily severe taking numerous lives and causing unimaginable loss of property and damage.

In this episode Matthew Karakoulakis warns that people might get a rude awakening when they attempt to recover some of their losses through their insurance provider.

He advises to carefully READ ones policy before lodging any claims. Some policies contain clauses stipulating that they do not cover disasters that may result from ‘acts of God’. But what is an act of God?

Matthew also advises on what to do if you do not have a hard copy of your policy, for instance if it had been destroyed in the fire.

He also explains what measures to take before you start any repairs and what types of works can be undertaken even before insurance assessors come inspect your property.

He also offered answers to many recurring questions:

What can you do if you are not happy with the level of compensation offered by your insurance provider?

What if you are not covered at all? What are your recourses?

How do you resolve issues stemming from some terms in the policy that may lead to different interpretations and outcomes?
