“The Dreamtime awards are about celebrating and recognizing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander excellence, it’s about coming together and looking at all the great things were doing.”

Founder of the Dreamtime Awards Matt Rose says The Dreamtime Awards are about celebrating and recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander excellence, coming together and looking at all the great things we are doing.

With a handful of nominations there is a panel to choose four finalists in each category which include Sport, Arts, Academic and Community.

Matt says “It was so hard to pick a winner, from the panel they said because it was so many people doing great things and these are the stories we need to get, we need to celebrate it, because if were celebrating our excellence and achievements that were doing, that’s gonna pass on to the rest of the community and to our kids and to everyone trying to do good.

"It’s great that we can  do that in some sort of format at the moment and that’s the Dreamtime Awards, something that will now exist hopefully forever and we can come together and do that.”

“We are locked in for next year, we’ll be defiantly putting the award on again next year and like I said it only grow in status and hopefully it continues too, give out that aspirational building within Communities to achieve for us to be successful.”

With positive amount of feedback and support Matt says that the awards are locked in for next year and it will grow in status.

He says "Hopefully it continues to give out that aspirational building within communities for us to be successful.”

“I think the big thing we have so many negative stories that go out a lot of the time and we gotta start having these conversations around how great we are, not about the negatives that exist in our communities or us a people.”

The event was held in the luxurious Star Event Centre with a dinner and awards kicking off the night with entertainment from well known performers in the music industry.

Performances included Jessica Mauboy, Gurruwa and Johnno Yunupingu who done a tribute to G.

Local knowledge come back to play for the first time in 12 years and Casey Donovan closed the night out.

"We had some great entertainment in between the awards, yeah it was really enjoyable for everyone.”
