Peter Jensen found his passion in firefighting, and now gives back to his community as a mentor in the same educational program that helped him get there.
Peter Jensen is a Tjungundji man originally from the Atherton Tablelands, about a 90-minute drive south-west of Cairns.
After working many jobs throughout his life, it was only when a good friend described his experience as a firefighter that Peter found his own calling. Then he was able to qualify and land himself a job as a firefighter through the Indigenous Fire and Rescue Employment Strategy program run jointly by TAFE NSW and Fire and Rescue NSW.
Peter now resides in Campbelltown where he works as a firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW, as well as an educator at TAFE NSW and mentor within the IFARES program.
