Mayor Fred Gela says governance isn't about a tick and a flick of a pen when it comes to people's lives and signing off for funding.

The Torres Strait Island Regional Council is seeking Federal support to deal with key issues amongst the bureaucracy of red tape that prevents the real issues to be heard.

The Federal Budget report for 2016/17 brought mixed reactions to the way the Federal Government and the Opposition project how funding will be spent for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities.

To make sure voices from the Torres Strait Islands were heard, Mayor Fred Gela from the Torres Strait Island Regional Council traveled to Canberra to present the Federal Parliament Selected Deputations Canberra May 2016.

The Deputations is a clear report outlining three key areas that needed urgent attention for the people of the Torres Strait Islands

Regional Governance Reform

International Border and the Torres Strait Treaty

Climate Change Adaptation

Mayor Fed Gela joins Living Black Radio for an in-depth discussion with Kirstyn Lindsay about the Deputations.
