Meet Abbie and Nathan, owners of the Gomu Rawak Shop, and finalists in the Buy From The Bush Big Break Competition for rural business owners and entrepreneurs.
The Gomu Rawak Shop, aka the Ugly Hermit Crab, is a late-night takeaway shop in Milingimbi, over 400km east of Darwin.
Launched by Abbie and Nathan from their home three months ago, the Gomu Rawak Shop is the only place in the Milingimbi community that serves hot food after 6pm when the local grocery shop closes for the night.
Now Abbie and Nathan are finalists in the Buy From The Bush Big Break Competition, where rural business owners and entrepreneurs created video pitches for their businesses to be in the running for up to $30,000 in prize money.
Abbie and Nathan believe that a win for the Gomu Rawak Shop would be a win for their whole community, and that the growth and expansion of the business will serve as an inspiration for everyone else with an idea of their own.
