Torres Strait and Kaurareg Healing Strategy addresses trauma.

The Torres Strait and Kaurareg Aboriginal Peoples Healing Strategy has been launched to address trauma in the islands and provide a framework for government to incorporate healing priorities into service delivery in partnership with local communities.

Recommendations of the strategy include: child safety and wellbeing, increase community safety, enable spiritual healing and self-determination and build men’s and women’s leadership capacity by harnessing the strength  of culture and ancient wisdom.

The people of the Torres Strait say they've got to get on with the business of finding ways of healing themselves and with the support of local, state and federal governments, the implementation of the strategy acknowledges their wisdom an culture as a medicine.

Healing Foundation Deputy Chair Leanne Wilson, spoke to Living Black Radio from "The Torres Strait and Kaurareg Aboriginal Healing Strategy" launch on Thursday Island.
