Uncle Gary Williams - preserving endangered languages at Antidote 2022

Gary Williams CEO of Muurbay Aboriginal Language and Culture Co-operative has travelled throughout the Coffs Harbour region advising on regional language projects, particularly Bundjalung

Uncle Gary Williams will share his knowledge and experience in reviving endangered languages at Antidote 2022.


Uncle Gary is a Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung man who has worked on Gumbaynggirr language reclamation for over 20 years.

His close collaboration with researcher Ian Sim helped to bring back valuable records of Gumbaynggirr Elders and has led research that resulted in the publishing of the Gumbaynggirr Dictionary and other Aboriginal languages.

Uncle Gary will speak about language revitalisation in detail at the First Languages First talk at Antidote 2022 at the Opera House on 11 September.
