This telling of the Jukurrpa story about the snake in the waterhole, Warna Kurlu, was originally created at the Bilingual Resource Development Unit in Yuendumu in collaboration with PAW Media to support Warlpiri language learning for children.

Up on the hill, there was a big waterhole.

It was a favourite place to go, everyone loved swimming there all the time.

One night, after it got dark, big clouds of rain rolled in. It rained and rained, all night long.

More and more rain came, until that waterhole was full. And a giant snake slipped into the water.

The next day, after the rain had stopped, two men came up to the waterhole to see how full it was.

All of a sudden a big wind blew. It blew them into the murky water where the snake hid.

The giant snake rose up from the depths and swallowed the two men whole.
