Australian wireless air-gunner, Alan Hammet was shot down over Cracow, Poland on 16 August 1944. He joined the Polish Home Army, survived and later married one of his fellow resistance fighters, Jadwiga Wielowiejska. His story is part of the exibition 'Resistance -Australians and the European Underground 1939–45' shown in ' Shrine of Remembrance' in Melbourne.
