29-year-old Anjan Shrestha has been sentenced to six years in prison for raping a woman “who he met on Facebook” in Melbourne, Fairfax Media reported.

He was spying on his girlfriend outside a nightclub in August 2014 when he spotted the victim and followed her to a kebab shop in his car with the headlights turned off.

After the victim’s friend left, he followed the woman to the corner of the carpark and called her name.

"[You] grabbed her, pushed her to the ground ... mounted her by straddling her, calling her name, saying you had her on Facebook," the Judge said.

Despite managing to push him off her, the man grabbed her, forced her to the ground and digitally penetrated her.

The woman punched and pushed him off her and ran to her friend's house, where they called the police.

A jury convicted him of one charge of rape, which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Judge Chettle said that the accused posed a serious risk of reoffending. The Judge added he had shattered the life of the victim who was now suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

"Attacking women the way you did cannot be justified and must attract strong condemnation,” the judge said while ordering a non-parole period of four years and  ordered him to be placed on sex offenders register for eight years.

"You stalked, attacked and violated a young woman, you lied repeatedly about what occurred, you repeatedly falsely impugned the conduct of your victim," he said.

Anjan had reportedly changed his name and profile photo on Facebook after committing the act to avoid getting caught.

Shrestha, who arrived in Australia as a student from Nepal, maintained that he had the consent of the victim.

The Judge said though it’s a decision for the immigration minister, but in “my view it would be in the interest of the community if you were deported.”

The 29-year-old who had arrived in Australia from Nepal as a student, may have his partner visa cancelled as a result of his conviction.
