Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashish Khaitan has apologised for comparing the party’s youth manifesto with religious texts, Guru Granth Sahib, Bible and Gita.

He said did not mean to disrespect the holy books and was regretful for his act.

Akal Takht, the SGPC and other Sikh organisations had criticised the Aam Aadmi Party for equating the party’s youth manifesto with the Sikh holy book.

The party leaders also faced flak for using the picture of the Golden Temple on its title cover along with party’s symbol, broom.

The jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Gurbachan Singh had cautioned AAP convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal against resorting to such acts again.

Party leaders Bhagwant Mann, Kanwar Sandhu and Khaitan on Tuesday held a press conference to issue a clarification over the controversy.

Former journalist, Kanwar Sandhu also apologised for publishing the picture of the Golden Temple along with party’s symbol “broom” on their manifesto.

Sandhu said they have sought an apology for hurting the sentiments of those concerned. He said they would not repeat the mistake in future.

The party's Punjab Dialogue Committee released its 51 point Youth Manifesto in Amritsar.
