Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, MS Dhoni-led CSK never loosened it's grip on the run-chase, winning the clash with 9 balls to spare and with 8 wickets in the shed.
SRH, under Kane Williamson's able leadership and considerable batting prowess, posted a daunting target of 179 in their innings. The skipper top scored with 47, while Yusuf Pathan chipped in with an electric 45 (not out) in 25 balls.

In reply, seasoned Aussie warhorse Shane Watson opened CSK's innings along with the Proteas captain Faf du Plessis.

Owing to a hamstring injury, Watson began gingerly, seeing off 10 dot balls before he could score his first run.

But what followed was nothing short of a blitzkrieg, with Watson amassing 117 runs off the next 47 balls he faced, smashing 8 sixes and 11 fours.

His CSK team-mate Dwayne Bravo was all praise saying "Watson batted on one leg and his experience helped."

This was Watson's second century in IPL 2018 and the highest score posted by an individual in any IPL final.

Also, this is the second time an Australian player has been named man of the match in an IPL final, with Ben Cutting taking that award in 2016.

As for CSK, this is an emphatic return to the tournament for a team that hadn't played together for two years. By winning their third IPL title, they have equalled Mumbai Indians' record for the number of IPL crowns won so far.
The victory gives the winners Rs 20 crore ($3.9 million AUD) in prize money and the runners up SRH have booted Rs 12.5 crore ($2.4 million AUD).

It is claimed that this match was watched by over 10 million online viewers from around the world, the highest for any IPL final so far.

Even spectators at Lords, the home of cricket, got to watch the match after Pakistan beat England comprehensively in the first test match played there last night.
