Bill Shorten Announces New Shadow Ministry.

Federal opposition leader Bill Shorten has announced the make up of his new, expanded ministry.

Bill Shorten’s ministry consists of 32 ministers, with eight MPs from regional areas and 13 women.

In the reshuffle, Tanya Plibersek becomes the Opposition’s spokesperson on Women and takes on Education. Kate Ellis is to work with her in early childhood, vocational care and TAFE portfolios.

Opposition leader in the Senate, Penny Wong takes the Foreign Affairs.

In further changes, Multicultural Affairs gets a boost and Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs goes to Tony Burke and also Water and Environment. He will also have two assistant ministers in Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, namely, Jacinta Collins and Julie Owens.

Mr Shorten will take the Indigenous Affairs portfolio and will have Western Australian Senator Patrick Dodson as his assistant.

Indigenous MP Linda Burney will take Human Services.

Victorian MP Richard Marles will move to Defence and his Immigration and Border Protection Portfolio will go to Shayne Neumann.

Mark Butler will retain Climate Change and Energy.

Chris Bowen will stay as Treasurer and will be assisted by Andrew Leigh.
