A member of public located the abandoned suitcase in a walkway off Cromer Street, Leicester, on Tuesday. According to a report by NDTV, the body is believed to be of Kiran Daudia, a 46 year old woman of Indian origin from Leicester. Her 50 year old ex-husband Ashwin Daudia has been arrested by police on charge of murder and has been remanded in custody. He is due to appear in Leicester Magistrate’s court today.

"A 50-year-old man has been charged with murder following the body of woman being discovered in a suitcase," Leicestershire Police said in a statement.

The family of Kiran is said to be devastated by this news. Kiran has left behind two adult sons.

"Kiran was a much loved mum, daughter, sister and auntie, and she will be deeply missed by us all. We ask that our privacy be respected during this very difficult time."

Neighbours believe that Kiran was the local woman who had gone missing shortly before this case came to light. A neighbour, Jasbir Kaur said she had spoken to the missing woman’s sister around 9:30 yesterday. Jasbir Kaur said that the lady told her that her sister was missing and that the family was worried about her safety. She was last seen leaving work at 2 pm the day before.

Kiran used to work for a famous Uk retailer NEXT as a call centre employee. She had worked there for the last 17 years and was a valuable member of their team. Her employers released a statement.

"Kiran was a long-standing, much loved and highly respected member of our Customer Services Team, having worked at Next for over 17 years. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and co-workers at this saddest of times. She will be sorely missed."

The police have urged members of public to come forward with any information they may know about the case. If anyone had seen someone "pulling a suitcase" in the area of Lyme Street and the alleyway behind Cromer Street in the late afternoon or early evening of Monday are also urged to come forward.
