There are reports that a man has been detained for causing a bomb scare in Melbourne city which caused the suspension on city loop train service and evacuation of many people from the platforms. Trains were bypassing Melbourne Central station and people were evacuated from platform 1 and 2 this afternoon.

The loop has been cleared since then and services have resumed.

The Age reported that a twitter user mentioned a man had climbed onto a moving train and left a bag on the roof. An announcement was made at the Parliament station that there were unauthorised people in the city loop tunnel.
Victoria Police spokesman Leading Senior Constable Paul Turner said safety checks were conducted at Melbourne Central at 2.20pm.
"Platforms 1 and 2 were evacuated as a precaution," he said.

"The area's been deemed safe. Police have cleared it.

"No injuries have been reported.

"The station's reopened and a 21-year-old man is in custody currently assisting with inquiries."
