A businessman has been allegedly murdered in broad daylight right outside his mill and the alleged killers were filmed on a surveillance camera.
Ravinder Kochar, an industrialist, was shot dead at close range by an unidentified man on Sunday afternoon in Faridkot.
The CCTV vision of the incident showed a car pulling over when Mr Kochar was just parking his car outside his mill. A man came out of the vehicle and fired five shots through the window of Mr Kochar’s car.
Police said the victim was shot in the head and his neck and he died on the spot before help arrived.
"According to the CCTV footage, there were two persons in the attackers' car. While one of them remained on the driver's seat, the other one came out to shoot. We have identified the vehicle and a search is on,” the Faridkot district chief Nanak Singh said.
He said two men were following Mr Kochar's car before he was shot dead.
Though the shooter did not have any mask on his face and it was clearly seen, police have not confirmed whether he has been identified. A murder case has been registered against an unidentified person.
Earlier this year, shots were fired outside Mr Kochar’s mill and three men who were allegedly trying to extort money from him. They had fled with his car which was recovered a week later. Police at the time had registered an offence even as Mr Kochar did not file a complaint as he feared for his life.
The deceased’s family has slammed the police for failing to provide him with adequate police protection despite the threats he faced.
"After the February incident why wasn't my brother given police protection? We fear for our lives after what has happened to him," said Narendar Singh Kochar, brother of the deceased.
Police suspect the same gang that fired shots in February, could be responsible for his murder.
