Community comes forward to support domestic violence victim's family

The tragedy has brought the Indian community together to show their respect and to help support the cause against domestic violence.

Blacktown Councillor Moninder Singh JP has urged the community to come forward to curb the shocking cases of domestic violence.

“It must stop and it can only be done by raising awareness against domestic violence,” said Cr Singh in an interview with SBS Radio.

Cr Singh told SBS that the local community is very keen to support victim’s family. the victim is survived by two sons.

“We are very pleased to see that an anonymous donation has covered all the funeral expenses,” said Cr Singh.

“The local community has come forward to join hands in the vigils held to remember Ms Kaur and all women who have been killed in domestic violence.”

“She had a kind heart. She was very religious and she routinely visited Parklea Sikh Temple.”

“Everyone at the gurdwara is in big shock. The Gurdwara sangat was very keen to have a fundraiser that was organised to help support Ms Kaur’s family,” said Cr Singh.

Candlelight vigils were held by Blacktown council and Harman Foundation in the memory of women who have been killed in domestic violence.

Late Harjit Kaur's mother gave a strong message against domestic violence at the vigil night as organised by Harman Foundation.
