Consumers have been advised not to consume rockmelon, particularly infants, pregnant women and the elderly over fears of a salmonella outbreak.
State and territory food enforcement agencies are investigating the possible link with rockmelon, following an increase in cases of salmonella in a number of states in Australia.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand has advised that vulnerable consumers should avoid consuming rockmelon while the authorities investigate the cause of infections.
"While we wait for further information, the best advice is that consumers, especially infants, the elderly, pregnant women or people with compromised immune systems, should not consume rockmelon," it said in a statement on Tuesday.
