A childcare worker has been arrested in Mumbai (India) after a surveillance video showed she brutally assaulted a 10-month-old girl on Monday.
The video shows the child being first thrown the floor, kicked and slapped repeatedly on the face resulting in possible internal head injuries.
“We dropped her at the childcare at 8:30 in the morning and when my husband picked her at 7 in the evening, she was unconscious and had a bruise near her eye and swelling on her feet. We were told she had hurt herself. The next day, she began vomiting,” Ruchika Sinha, the child's mother told ABP News.
She said her daughter was still in a hospital under observation of a neurosurgeon.
Mumbai police arrested the childcare operator and the worker who allegedly assaulted the child after procuring the surveillance video on Wednesday. The owner of the childcare was released on bail later that evening.
With a growing middle class in India and many families with two incomes, there’s a rising demand for childcarers in India cities. However, childcare industry in India is largely unregulated and the workers mostly without any formal qualifications or training.
