Manhattan real estate mogul Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 45th President of United States of America in what was the 58th Presidential inauguration. The 70 year old billionaire was sworn in as the next President of the United States by Chief Justice John Roberts. He recited the 35 word oath with his hand placed upon two Bibles, one of which was used in President Abraham Lincoln’s inauguration. The inauguration was attended by a much lesser crowd than his predecessor’s swearing in eight years ago. More than 60 House Democrats refused to attend the ceremony but it was attended by former Presidents George W Bush and Jimmy Carter. Mr Trump’s rival Hillary Clinton was also present at the inauguration ceremony along with her husband Bill Clinton.
Outgoing President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle attended the ceremony before leaving the White House by helicopter.
In his first speech as the President, Donald Trump said he would put the American people first.
"Today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, DC. And giving it back to you, the people."
"From this day forward, it's going to be only America first."
While Donald Trump was addressing his supporters, a lot of his opponents also filled Washington streets. More of these protesters were from the anti-racist, anti-war, feminist, LGBT groups and were noisily but peaceful, though sporadic violence marred the day. Mobs clad in black clothing smashed windows and lit fires and over 90 were arrested for vandalism.
