According to a new legislation being introduced in Victoria, all major fast food chains and big supermarkets will be required to display the kilojoule count of their take away food from the middle of next year.
This law would apply to any large food chain business that has more than 20 outlets or stores in Victoria or more than 50 nationally which means that more than 3,000 food outlets will be affected. This law will also be enforced on take away food in large supermarkets, of which there are around 650 in Victoria.
Similar laws have already been enforced in NSW, ACT and South Australia. Health Minister Jill Hennessey says that this move will bring Victoria in line with the other states.
