A new research of data has revealed which industries had the most opportunities and strong job ad growths on SEEK in the past 12 months. According to Herald Sun, public transport workers and taxi drivers have topped the list in the fastest job ad growth on Seek in Victoria. Job advertising for both these areas increased by 133 per cent. Not only this, it’s good news for women too as it has been revealed that these jobs have been especially appealing to women.

With the construction industry in boom, drafting engineers have also been in demand. Average salary for advertised for engineering jobs in 2016 was $98,411 and for drafting engineers $67,791.

The demand for welders and boilermakers also jumped up by 65 per cent. Workers’ compensation and healthcare and medical management have also been in demand.

Although rail and construction are typically considered male dominant fields, yet, the trend is changing. There is a lot of investment that’s going into public transport improvements which has seen new people and ideas come in.

Yara Trams spokesman Simon Murphy said they have seen a fivefold increase in the number of people applying for jobs. Since 2013, the number of women applicants has increased by 38 per cent and the number of women employees has increased by 50 per cent.

Yara Trams launched a campaign ‘Driven Women’ in 2013 to increased diversity and capability in the industry. Within two years of the campaign, they experienced a 900 per cent increase in women applying for driver roles.

It is, perhaps, the growing population and increasing life expectancy that is fuelling job growth across engineering, health care and medical sectors and construction and trade. According to SEEk spokeswoman Kendra Banks, the demand on SEEK is not expected to slow down any time soon in these job areas as Victoria will always have new or improves residential and commercial infrastructure and people to care for us at all stages of life.
