Father killed in Kargil, Indian girl bats for peace

Gurmehar's father died during the Kargil war between India and Pakistan in 1999 when she was just two.

A message for peace between India and Pakistan by a 19-year-old girl from Punjab has gone viral on social media.

Gurmehar Kaur from Jalandhar has taken to facebook to share her very powerful story to inspire action for restoring peace between the two hostile nations.

Gurmehar's father, Captain Mandeep Singh was killed during the Kargil war in 1999, when she was just two. All she knew was that her father was killed by Pakistanis who were Muslims. Gurmehar says this bred hatred in her for Pakistanis and Muslims.

But, her perspective changed dramatically leading to the realization that her father was killed "by war".

The video has been viewed more than 800,000 times and has tens of thousands shares.Ms. Kaur shared her story through 'Voice Of Ram', a facebook channel that claims to be the world's first "Velfie movement".
