Garry Sandhu to contest local government election in WA

Garry Sandhu has been living in the City of Gosnells, Perth for the past 10 years. As a professional civil engineer, working for the local government, he claims to understand the role of council decisions on people’s lives.

Garry Sandhu moved to Australia in 2008 as a skilled worker. He works as professional civil engineer in a local council in Perth, WA.

Garry told SBS Punjabi that although, he is an independent candidate but he will be contesting as part of a group to share the cost of advertisement.

“Most importantly, I fully understand how the council decisions shape-up our lives,” said Mr Sandhu.

“My vision is to improve the living standards of its residents by providing excellent indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, recreation parks, libraries, transport systems and well-maintained bicycle paths.

Garry Sandhu told SBS Punjabi that he is a passionate advocate of WA’s multicultural community especially of the people of Indian-origin.

“I have an active participation in community based social welfare organisation. I routinely take part in the welfare initiatives conducted by Eco Sikhs and Punjabi Sath Perth,” said Mr Sandhu.

“I will analyse and revise the policies to support sustainable developments that have lower ecological footprints and value for money.

“After having lived in the City of Gosnells for the last 10 years along with my wife and a little daughter, I believe Council can do more for happiness of our seniors and youth.

“I will support programmes to connect our youth with seniors for their mutual benefits.

“More importantly, I will be people’s voice in council to get positive outcomes.

“I seek resident’s vote and support in elections and collectively we can bring great benefits to our community.
Local government ordinary elections are held on the third Saturday in October every two years. The next local government ordinary elections will be held on 21 October 2017.

While voting in a local government election is not compulsory in Western Australia, all electors are strongly encouraged to vote.
