Highlights
  • Indian Test batsman Murali Vijay expresses his wish to have dinner with Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry
  • “Ellyse Perry. I want to have dinner with her. She is so beautiful,” said Vijay.
  • Responding to his request, Perry said she hopes "he's paying."
The Indian Test opener picked her name during an interview on Instagram Live last month when he was asked who he would like to go out for a meal among the cricketers.

The Chennai Super Kings top-order batsman caused a stir on social media when he picked the Australian all-rounder’s name. “Ellyse Perry. I want to have dinner with her. She is so beautiful,” said Vijay.

When asked for another name, the batsman said his fellow Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan would be an ideal company for dinner as he is a “fun” guy.

“And Shikhar Dhawan any day. He is a fun guy. Just that he will speak Hindi and I will be conversing in Tamil,” he added.

Making light of the comments during a recent interview, Perry, who is currently enjoying time with her family in Melbourne, gave a cheeky response to Vijay’s request.

“I hope he’s paying if that’s the case," she said.

“That’s very kind of him, I’m very flattered,” she added during an interview with Indian sports presenter Ridhima Pathak.

But while Perry down-played Vijay’s comments, some cricket fans were quick to take a jibe at the former Indian Test opener.

A Twitter user wrote Vijay would first have to tackle Perry’s husband, Australian rugby star Matt Toomua before taking her out for dinner.
Vijay, who was last seen playing for the Indian team in Perth in 2018 was dropped from the national squad after a lean stint, two years ago.

He has scored 12 centuries for India in 61 Test matches and continues to play for the Chennai Super Kings camp, a franchise cricket team which plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
