India hockey captain Sardar Singh accused of sexual exploitation

A former member of Britain's under 19 hockey team has accused Sardar Singh of sexual exploitation.

A London-based woman of Indian orgin has reportedly filed a complaint of sexual harassment against Sardar Singh, captain of the Indian hockey team in Ludhiana.

Station House Officer of Koom Kalan police station, Surjit Nagra confirmed to The Tribune that a complaint against Sardar Singh had been received.The police officer said a formal complaint would be registered following a preliminary investigation.

The woman is reported to have told the police that she came in contact with Sardar Singh in 2012 while she was in Britain's under-19 hockey team. She alleged that she was in a physical relationship with Sardar Singh as he had promised to marry her.

The woman alleged that after she got pregnant, Sardar insisted that she should undergo an abortion, which she did. However, Sardar later refused to marry her and even stopped taking her phone calls, she alleged. She claimed she got engaged to Sardar Singh a few months ago and both of them had recently visited Bhaini Sahib to pay obeisance.
