An Indian man is facing court in the UAE after being arrested for trying to board a plane to India without a valid ticket and passport.
A 26-year-old civil engineer who is identified as RK, allegedly scaled the wall of the Sharjah airport and breached the runway because he was “desperate” to meet his fiancée in India.
According to RK, his passport was being held by his employer.
“I want to say I’m a free man and our life is ours. I did this act because I wanted to travel back to India to meet my fiancee, whatever the price I have to pay,” he told the Khaleej Times.
He was arrested after a baggage handler spotted him while trying to enter a plane.
During the court hearing, he told the court that he had left behind all his belongings at his apartment and just took his wallet and went to the airport at night.
He said he couldn’t buy a ticket as he did not have his passport.
RK reportedly told the court that he decided to take a chance to travel without his passport. Or if caught, he would be at least get his passport if the court decided to deport him from the UAE.
He told the Khaleej Times that he was desperate to meet his fiancée. He claimed he had sought his employer’s permission to visit India but was refused.
“I cannot live without my fiancee and want to convince my parents to give us permission to marry,” he said.
He said he had no regrets at being arrested and being prosecuted, but just wanted to be free to go to India and marry his fiancée.
