Indian high commission in Australia has asked all Indian emigrants to remain vigilant about attempts to defraud them by misleading phone calls or other means of communication.
In a scam alert issued recently, the High Commission has said that several Indians have received fraudulent calls, especially those who migrated to Australia recently regarding their Australian visas, from masked telephone numbers.

"At times, the callers have even spoofed the phone numbers allotted to the High Commission of India, Canberra or its Consulates in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or their service providers."
"The Indian High Commission or its Consulates usually do not deal with the immigrant Indians regarding their Australian visa/immigration status. The Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Government of Australia and Australian Federal Police have been informed about these suspicious calls," reads an alert issued by the Indian High Commission.
The High Commission has suggested that any such incidents should be reported to the local police authorities and a copy of the report forwarded to the Indian High Commission at visa@hcindia-au.org.
