A 20-year-old Indian student was nearly killed by a stolen car while he and was waiting for a bus in southeast Melbourne on Saturday.
Shocking CCTV footage from the scene shows a black Honda Accord speeding towards the bus stop where Jaideep Mandhan and another 17-year-old were sitting oblivious to the approaching vehicle, shortly after 11 am.
The car then smashed into the shelter, mowing down the pair.
“He (Jaideep Mandhan) hit the gutter, he hit the bus stop and then the tree,” Leigh Fist who witnessed the crash told 9News.
“He hit the tree so hard that he bounced back about a 5 feet,” he added.
The impact of the crash has Mr Mandhan with critical injuries and multiple broken bones. He is currently being treated at The Alfred Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

His family who lives in Karnal in the northern Indian state of Haryana has been informed about the incident and is on their way to Melbourne to attend to Mr Mandhan. He has already undergone at least one surgery.
The driver was later identified as a 35-year-old man from Braybrook area in Melbourne's inner west. He reportedly asked a bystander to call triple zero before he fled the scene.
He was arrested by the Major Collision Detectives when he turned up at the Monash hospital for treatment for his wounds he sustained in the crash.
It's alleged that the car he was driving at the time of the mishap was stolen during a burglary in Forest Hill, two days before the accident.
