Global executive head of change.org in India, Preethi Herman has been named along with 19 other civic leaders for the prestigious Obama Foundation Fellowship.
The inaugural batch of the fellowship which has been hand-picked from a pool of over 20,000 people from 191 countries will take part in a two-year program focused on empowering leaders from diverse backgrounds to promote civic innovation across the globe.
Announcing her selection in the coveted program on Twitter, Ms Herman said “Civic participation is a responsibility and opportunity each one of us have and my work and life is driven by this core mission.”
Ms Herman whose organisation facilitates petitioners to start campaigns on various social issues was earlier named among the 50 ‘most influential women in Indian media’ by Impact Media in 2016. She was also chosen by the government as one of ‘25 women transforming India’ in 2017.
Along with Ms Herman, an Indian born American, Dr Navdeep Kang, director of operations and behavioral health at Mercy Health in Ohio has also been chosen for the program.
According to a statement issued by the hospital, Dr Kang will join the fellowship "to create transformational change on one of our (US) community’s most pressing problems – the opioid epidemic."
Highlighting the mission of the Obama Foundation during his visit to India in 2017, Mr Obama had said the central goal of his foundation is to “focus on the next generation of leadership” across the globe.
