30 year old Johal, was first arrested by Punjab police on November 4, for alleged involvement in the killing of local RSS leader Durga Prasad last year.

The National Investigation Agency is now looking into the matter and Johal was produced at the NIA court under tight security.

The lawyer representing the NIA requested the court to grant permission to keep Johal in remand for an additional 14 days.

But upon considering the objections raised by Johal’s counsel, Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, Additional Sessions Judge Anshul Berry granted custody for three further days. Johal will reappear in court on December 22.

In what is claimed to be a targeted killing, Durga Prasad was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants in April 2016 in the city of Khanna (Punjab).

Johal and four others were arrested by the Punjab Police in connection with targeted killing cases last month. It is alleged that five incidents of targeted killings have taken place between April 2016 and February 2017.
