Astha Sarmah describes herself as ‘just another 18-year-old’. But she is anything but, and perhaps US President Donald Trump would also agree. After all, not everyone can give the mercurial POTUS a lesson in climate change that would send the Twitter world in a euphoric spiral.
Ms Sarmah did just that.
Last week, Mr Trump took to Twitter on the subject of temperatures plummeting to a record low on Thanksgiving and using it to show his scepticism about global warming.
“Brutal and Extended Cold Blast could shatter ALL RECORDS - Whatever happened to Global Warming? he tweeted.
This is where Ms Sarmah, who lives in the north-eastern state of Assam in India, decided she had to step in to teach Mr Trump the difference between weather and climate.
“I am 54 years younger than you. I just finished high school with average marks. But even I can tell you that WEATHER IS NOT CLIMATE. If you want help understanding that, I can lend you my encyclopedia from when I was in 2nd grade. It has pictures and everything,” she tweeted.
Her tweet has been retweeted over 6,500 times and has received over 26,000 likes with many showering her with applause, some even offering her internship to study climate change on the Arabian Sea.
This is not the first time Donald Trump has questioned claims about climate change.
His latest tweet on the subject has invited the wrath of climate scientists as well.
“This demonstrates once again that Donald Trump is not an individual to be taken seriously on any topic, let alone matters as serious as climate change,” Michael Mann, a climate scientist at Pennsylvania State University, told Huffington Post.
“He is a clown — a dangerous clown.”
On Tuesday, Mr Trump rejected a report compiled by 13 federal US agencies detailing the effect of climate change, saying he is not a believer of climate change and doesn't see it as a pressing problem.
