NSW emergency crews are racing to an accident at Coralville, near Taree, where a car has collided with a freight train with reports of people trapped.

A pregnant woman and three children are reportedly trapped in a car that's collided with a freight train on the NSW mid north coast.

Police confirmed the accident at Coralville, just north of Taree.

A pregnant woman and three children were in a car involved in the accident, a Westpac Helicopter spokesman told AAP on Thursday.

The children are reportedly aged seven, four and two, according to 2GB.

Three helicopters are on route to the accident.
